The Lt. General (Ret.) Edgar Starr Harris, Jr. Scholarship was established in 2010 to benefit students planning to pursue a professional career in the United States military. Preference is given to students interested in a career with the U.S. Air Force and to dependents of Air Force members currently serving or who have served at Barksdale Air Force Base. The scholarship is named in honor of Lt. General (Ret.) Edgar Starr Harris, Jr., who served as commander of the Eighth Air Force, Strategic Air Command, with headquarters at Barksdale Air Force Base. Each applicant must submit a copy of his or her official transcript, a resume and an original essay on why he or she has chosen to pursue a professional career in the U.S. military. The essay shall not exceed 500 words in length. Applications will be judged based in the student’s clarity of expression, demonstrated integrity and evidence of a desire to serve others.
