Ian Quiet Named as 2018 Scott Griffin Award Winner

The Community Foundation of North Louisiana has named musician Ian Quiet as the winner of the G. Scott Griffin Award. The award, which features a cash prize of $1,000, is given annually to a local artist who has contributed to the community through his or her art while overcoming adversity. Quiet will be honored at a reception at Artspace on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at 5:00 PM. Other finalists for this award are Susan Duke, Tracy McComic, Jason Pliler, and Ron Smith.

Challenge Issued to Law Firms to Engage Caddo Transformation Zone Students

The Caddo Parish Transformation Zone will be hosting Round 1 of their Amazing Shake competition Monday, November 6 in Community Central at The Community Foundation. The purpose of the ‘Shake’ is to give students experience in interacting in a business situation.  Local attorneys will be asked to engage the students for five minutes and then score them on their skills of deportment, hand shake, eye contact and conversation. More than 100 students will participate. 

Kristi Gustavson Named as New Executive Director

The board of directors at The Community Foundation of North Louisiana announced Kristina B. Gustavson as its new executive director, starting January 2018. Gustavson replaces Paula Hickman, who led The Foundation for nearly 15 years. 

“On behalf of the board of directors, I am thrilled to welcome Kristi to The Community Foundation,” said Tom Murphy current board chairman. “We look forward to her leadership which we believe will bring The Foundation to even higher levels of achievement in developing philanthropy within our community.”

Community Foundation Awards Larry Sanchez 2017 G. Scott Griffin Award

The Community Foundation has named Larry Sanchez the 2017 G. Scott Griffin Award recipient.  The award is given annually by The Foundation to a local artist, in any media, who has overcome adversity to make a contribution to the community in the execution of his or her art.  Sanchez is also given a cash prize as part of the award.  

 

Sanchez will be honored at a reception at artspace on Friday, August 11, 2015 at 5 p.m. 

 

Paula Hickman to Retire as Executive Director from The Community Foundation

Paula Hickman, executive director of The Community Foundation of North Louisiana, has announced her retirement to be effective January 1, 2018. The Foundation’s board of directors are in the final stages of selecting a successor. That announcement will take place in September.  

Hickman joined The Foundation in 2003 as the development director and succeeded Dorothy Gwin as executive director in 2004.

The Community Foundation Announces 2017-18 Competitive Grant Cycle

The Community Foundation of North Louisiana will open Stage One of its 2017-18 competitive grant cycle on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.  There will continue to be a common application with the United Way of Northwest Louisiana in an effort to streamline the application process for nonprofits. Organizations serving North Louisiana are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have 501(c)3 status prior to submitting an application.

Nominations Sought for 2017 Griffin Award

The Community Foundation is accepting nominations for the G. Scott Griffin Award. The award, which features a cash prize, will be given to a local artist, who has overcome adversity to make a contribution to the community in the execution of his or her art. The deadline for entries is Monday, July 10, 2017, by 5 p.m. Application and guidelines can be found on The Community Foundation’s website, www.cfnla.org/scottgriffinaward.
